ΒΑΣΙΛΙΣΣΗΣ ΚΛΕΟΠΑΤΡΑΣ Head of Alexandria to right, wearing elephant skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ Eagle with spread wings standing left on thunderbolt; to left, monogram of ΠA. Faucher & Lorber Series 7A. SNG Copenhagen 276-7. Svoronos 1381. Weiser 149. Rare and with a very attractive rendering of Alexandria on the obverse. Minor roughness, otherwise, very fine.

Ex Leu Web Auction 16, 22 May 2021, 1887 and previously from the Rhakotis Collection, formed in the 1960s and 1970s (with collector’s ticket).

The appearance of the queen's name on the obverse of this coin clearly reflects the considerable political power wielded by Cleopatra II.
